Akinyemi Blackshear is a dancer, choreographer, and artist based in Savannah, GA. He is passionate about the change dance and the arts can bring to all communities. Akinyemi works closely reflect his life experiences, helping him work through the complications of our current realities. Akinyemi trained in a range of techniques with a strong focus on safety-release technique, contemporary, jazz, and ballet.
Upon the completion of his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Akinyemi interned for Jacob’s Pillow and worked as their Marketing Assistant full-time. Currently, Akinyemi working at the Savannah Music Festival as their Marketing & Patron Services Associate. Akinyemi is continuing to develop new work in hopes to re-create his dance company, The Kalonji Dance Project, with a focus on performance, community building, and being an active partner in the expansion of dance.
